Zhongwen Chinese Popup Dictionary Skritter Integration

This article will guide you on how to install and use the Zhongwen Chinese Popup Dictionary Chrome extension and how to seamlessly integrate it with Skritter.

Step 1: Open the Chrome Web Store

Navigate to the Chrome Web Store on any Chromium-based web browser (Chrome/Arc/Brave/Edge) and search Zhongwen or click here directly.

Step 2: Install the extension.

Click on the blue button Add to Chrome. This will add it to your list of extensions in the top right of your browser. Click on the jigsaw icon and click on Zhongwen, then hit the pin icon to add it to your favorite extensions.

Step 3: Activate/Deactivate the Extension.

Clicking on the Zhongwen icon will turn it on/off. When you first turn it on, (and don’t move the mouse), it will display a handy yellow helper box. This reminds you that hitting the s key on your Keyboard will add any word to Skritter instantly.

Step 4: Hover Over Some Chinese Characters

Now, navigate to a webpage with Chinese characters ( Wikipedia). Hover your cursor over a character. The Zhongwen extension will provide instant translations in a small pop-up window.

Step 5: Add to Skritter

Hit the s key to instantly add the vocab item to a new Skritter deck.

If this is the first time you’ve done it, you’ll need to log in with your Skritter credentials.

Step 6: Study on Skritter

The newly created deck can be found in your My Lists here. New words will be added to an automatically created section for that month. You can then review the whole deck, or click into each section to review cards month to month.

We really love the Zhongwen Chrome extension, and browsing the web for interesting characters is a great way to find and learn new vocabulary suited for you. With the hit of a single key-stroke, you can then study on everyone’s favorite app - Skritter!
