  • Added word-level grading support to 2+ character writing and tone cards
    • To change the grade just tap on the icon next to the characters (cycles through all the grades after each tap)
    • 3+ character items will now automatically be scored "incorrect" on the word level, rather than "hard" if you get one character incorrect
  • Improved example sentence and mnemonic support on study cards (swipe-left for sentence, swipe-right for mnemonic)
  • Moved characters to the main info screen on 2+ character words
  • Deleting a deck on the website will now sync with the app without clearing local data
  • Section-level pointers now match on the website after learning on mobile
  • Added Sync button to the deck options screen
  • Fixed an issue preventing some corrections emails from being sent successfully

Open Issues

Some of these will be fixed before we release this app to production on Android, some will not. All of these things are on our hit-list of things we want to fix and improve in the new mobile application. This list is roughly sorted by priority based on total feedback count, our internal error logs, and other factors. Know something we're still missing? Use the " Contact" area in the app, or send an email to team@skritter.com. Thanks!
  • Fix an issue where cards that have some parts banned no longer appear in the review queue
    • Note: In this version of the mobile app banning removes all card types from review. This is to reduce confusion and improve the predictability of features in the app. We will do what we can to honor the banning of parts from previous apps, but will not support this in the current app. If you don't want to study a particular card, please use the skip button or consider updating the card types you study in the app.
  • Fix an issue where incorrect cards appear again immediately if a card is banned from the queue during a review session
  • Fix and improve Japanese experience
    • Add "Romaji" setting to Study Settings to allow enabling and disabling
    • Add the ability to write kana and ignore Kanji as a deck session setting
      • For example, with the word 例文. The rune is 例文, and the reading is れいぶん. With this option enabled, you should see "例文" as the reading, and it would prompt you to write _ _ _ _, which is れ, い, ぶ, and ん
    • Obey deck settings for words
      • If writing is disabled in the deck, it should not appear
      • If writing is marked "uncommon" rare, it should still appear
  • Improve load times on My Library, and Browse Decks tabs
  • Add an "I don't know" button to the Review and Test activity cards (reduce those taps!!!)
  • Improve Traditional character variant mappings
  • Save more user settings to the server to prevent frustrations when logging in and out a lot
  • Improve the randomization of cards during the daily review session

Future features

This is just scratching the surface of things coming to the app over the coming months. More updates to follow. Stay tuned!

  •  Allow creation of brand new items to the database (currently available via the website)
    • Note: this is now a "future feature" because we're in the process of improving how this will be handled on our database. Current new item entries are prone to typos, pinyin errors, formatting errors, etc., so we're going to make sure they're perfect before showing them to anyone who didn't create the entry.

  • Focused study modes (Skritter Labs)
